I've been playing a good deal too much Rune Factory recently, and I gotta say, it's a hilarious game... none of it really makes any sense, but it's all good fun.
Essentially, it's a surprisingly engaging game of dungeon-raiding, farming, and flirting with various girls around town. There's something altogether appealing about the idea of beating down orcs, raising huge cabbages in their cave, then entering these in the Harvest Fair so you can win, buy a new sword, and repeat the cycle enough times to win the hand of a fair maiden.  Original, no? Anyways, if you wish to 'tame' monsters in Rune Factory, you must wear your black leather "friendship glove"... and Mist (one of the girls) has a humorous habit of always being right behind you when you least expect it.  |

I almost can't decide. It seems unfair to choose one, when they're all so loveble.
I'm going after Mei or Mist. I haven't really decided. Mist because she's the obvious titular love interest, and just so cute all the time. Mei because she's got an interesting background, and is much harder to get close to than the other girls.
Basically, the two girls who have the most plot contribution and interesting character-traits all-up. (Thus far, at least.)
I have this vague suspicion that Mei is some kind of spy from the Sechs Empire, and I wonder what happens with Mist's house if and when you two get married, given that she's the only girl who wouldn't obviously move in with you ('cept maybe Bianca).
I kinda like Bianca, but I just can't find anything in the world that she likes, and I refuse to use "strategy guides" for a game like this. What kind of person reads a Harvest Moon strategy guide? I mean... what're you going to do... cheat at farming? That's just low.

I was also thinkin' of Sharron. You know, the weird one who hangs out at the enterance of the Kasimir Ruins? Yeah, she seemed like the angst "I-have-a-weird-past-that-you-could-never-understand" kinda girl. That kinda thing always attracts me...

I suggest you upgrade your tools early, and talk to everyone in town a lot. It's very important, particularly at the start.
